Annual Recurring Option for Donations - Best Practice?

Wondering if anyone else offers - and likes - the recurring annual option for donations (not memberships) on LO donation forms? Our organization is preparing to launch this option on our new donation page but I'm questioning it as a possible diversion for potential monthly donors. We do not have an annual membership program. I've looked at many other charity donation forms and haven't found another that gives this option (especially as prominently as we will display it next to One-Time and Monthly), and haven't been able to find any best practices or data about it. Would greatly appreciate any experience others can share, particularly for organizations that don't have an annual membership. And if you do use it, do you code and communicate with them the same as monthly sustainers - i.e. remove them from other solicitations throughout the year?
