Multiple Workstations Connected to One cash register/printer.

Hi all,

Has anyone ever tried to connect multiple workstations (computers) to the same cash drawer/receipt printer? We currently have two computers set up in our front office for when we're busy, but only one of them can make any sort of sale.

I'm not opposed to setting up a second station with a new receipt printer and CC reader, but I'd like to avoid it.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks!

  • Hi Maggie,

For us, our workstations are hardwired to the receipt/ticket printers and the cash drawer. I'm thinking you won't be able to connect two workstations to the same printer/drawer under the same username as the transactions would get blurred if you have two going on at once. Plus, the workstations are individually connected to the printers.

What we've done is have a second workstation with just CC-transactions and emailed receipts (which is preferred at our organization with COVID-protocols). That way, we can have two functional workstations. Or, you could have a second workstation up and manually open the drawer with a key - we've done this during power surges or unexpected connection issues with the drawer popping.

    Hope this helps!
  • Hi Jess,

    Thank you for your response!

Can I ask what kind of CC reader you use? One of our challenges has been that we need to have patron's sign receipts because our CC reader isn't EMV certified.
