Work Center Security

Hello!


We have certain fundraisers who need to see the work centers of other fundraisers. Of course, granting them the security rights to "change fundraiser" in the work center is pretty straightforward.


However, I have a question about that: Is this security privilege an "all-or-nothing" deal? For instance, what if there are some fundraisers whose work centers you don't want anybody to see (i.e., people who handle very large and/or private gifts)? I did read the documentation about record security, which you can adjust in the database view. However, it seems you can only set gift security via fund code or constituent code.


Is there a way to work around this issue, such that a fundraiser can see the work center of certain other fundraisers, but not others?

It can be set up per user via Roles. Create a Fundraising role that allows access to other's portfolios, and then make sure everyone who needs to see other portfolios is in that role.




You can't specify which portfolios they can see though. I don't believe there is a way to do that, but maybe this will help.

Ken, I do believe it is an all-or-nothing security feature. Perhaps there is a different workaround that would suit the purpose as well? Perhaps, instead of viewing the other staff's workspaces, the supervisors could simply have a List of Actions pending for their subordinates, or a List of Portfolio members of their subordinates. Aside from Tags, everything in the workcenter can be accessed as well via Lists, with the appropriate filters. In Security, you can restrict access to List type depending on if they are Constituent, Action, or Gift lists -- so you could, for example, only allow the supervisor fundraisers to view Action and Opportunity lists for their fellows.

What Faith Murray said. We created action insights and put together an "activity dashboard" and assigned permissions to those who needed to see the activity. A fundraiser is not able to look at another fundraiser's portfolio/activity unless they are in a management role.
