Soft Credit Acknowledgment Letters

Can anyone share their set up of acknowledgment letters for soft credits? Right now I have it set to pull on both the donor and the soft credit, but the problem is that for the soft credit I need to know a) that it was a soft credit and b) who the donor was. One example is when someone gives from their Donor Advised Fund we record the gift on the DAF record and use a soft credit for the donor. The thank you letter should only go to the individual and not the DAF (although in other cases not for DAF gifts it'd be necessary to send a thank you letter to the donor and soft credit). In the donor's letter we need to reference the DAF (like, "thank you for recommending a gift from [DAF name]"). Ideally it'd be nice to have an output field of the donor record's name, but even if there's a way to show that this letter was a soft credit, I could just look up the gift and manually enter it.

We do letters from within each gift, so I open the gift, open the soft credit's record behind it in another window, generate the letter, alter what I need to alter (like name, address, salutation), print or PDF for emailing, save and close everything. The letter stays available from both our actions area and the individual gift itself, and shows that we sent it to the soft credit recipient if anyone is looking at it.
