Set-up and use of Resource Boards

We have not yet utilized the Resource Board feature in OnCampus (K-12). We're interested in doing so for our teachers and for our parents. Is there a (short-ish) Blackbaud training or online video resource that anyone could point me towards that will help me understand better (a) how the Resource Boards are used and (b) how to begin setting them up.

Thank you!

  • Hi Julie!

Setting up Resource Boards takes both the how to do it and the planning based on YOUR needs.

The basic how to site that I find useful for any part of the BBK12 space is:
    https://webfiles.blackbaud.com/files/support/helpfiles/education/k12/full-help/content/home.html

Within that library the direct link to the Core > Content > Resource boards how to is:
    https://webfiles.blackbaud.com/files/support/helpfiles/education/k12/full-help/content/bb-core-resource-boards.html

The difficult part is the planning of what posts you will add to your Fac/Staff and Parent Resource boards.

At past BBK12 conferences there was always at least one session about setting up Resource Boards - so you will find a lot of info if you start searching.

Our Tech director and I presented in 2017 on this topic, but basically you need to decide what you will put on the board and who will manage it moving forward.

Attached is part of the presentation which has a sample of our planning and what ours looked like then and still (kind of) looks like. It is difficult to manage the organic growth that happens. We decided on certain principles: what info is more relevant on the main website or elsewhere on the site, and to not duplicate info there, but link elsewhere. The project you are embarking on took us 3 months.

Attached is part of our presentation that includes how we organized our Parent Resource board.

Please note that other schools will do this a little differently, but usually following a similar set up plan if they are successful. Every school is unique.

    Hope it helps.
