Verifone P400 Wireless Setup

Hello! I was curious if anyone has a wireless terminal in-use for Altru (we are using BBMS).. We have several hardwired P400s and want to add one more for a “floating” payment/ticketing station. The device is WiFi-cabable but also has a USB port, so how does it interface with a laptop to process Altru interactions? Is it solely through WiFi and requires to be on the same network/subnet or can we get some drivers installed on the laptop so the credit card payment populates into Altru?

And does anyone have a truly wireless credit card terminal that works well with Altru? This one seems to need a power cable or PoE connection which will really limit where it can do.

  • Hello, Did anyone respond to you directly? I'm curious how your P400's are working for you? Do you have them hooked up to laptops, or have you tried using them on an iPad with a connector? Do you know if they work with Surface laptops? Thank you.

  • Absolutely not, I've called as well and found zero additional support.

Our working solution was to set up a Surface and P400 Plus on the same SSID. Then we set up the Surface as a workstation (while using Chrome for the Altru print extension) and the P400 Plus as a payment terminal. The Surface should be able to see the P400 Plus and send transactions to it. Have the receipt printer plugged in with a USB cable, the P400 is only connected by power and this should work. However, the P400 Plus seems to struggle a lot with wireless connections, disconnecting quite often even though the adjoining Surface and several wireless devices that are further away from our network (including a camera) don't have these issues. We ended up running an ethernet cable to the P400 Plus for a more consistent connection, but that's not doable for people who actually need a wireless networked device.

I have not tried using them with iPads! Our organization hasn't tried to use iPads at all with Altru yet but if we do I'll try to remember to log on and let you know. Do y'all use iPads with Altru in any capacity?

  • Hi, Thank you for your response. I spoke to a salesperson over the phone, and he let me know in mid-march, they will be releasing a newer version of the P400 that is powered via Bluetooth. Additionally, he let me know the P400 won't work with an Ipad because you need to create a workstation in order to connect it, and you cannot make an iPad a workstation. We plan to wait till mid-march to order the P400's and connect them to our surface laptops.
