Endowment Fund transactions

Does anyone process Endowment Fund transactions in RE? I am looking for suggestions for processing of gifts. I don't want them to be included in This Year Gifts but I do want them recorded on the supporter's record.

@Paul Sinclair, We record gifts to endowments on constituent records with the same process as any other gifts. For us they are counted in every giving report that I'm aware of.


If you do not want them to be included you will want to exclude them either by fund, specific gift code, gift attribute. Several other fields like fund type or gift-subtype could be used as well depending on how your org uses any of these fields.

Paul, are you talking about Endowment “disbursements” from the Endowment fund or additions to the fund?

@JoAnn Strommen, You might be able to assist with my question as well. We need to track endowment gifts that are given to us, but not make directly to us. For example, a person has established a charitable account at a private foundation and they transfer from their charitable account to my organization's charitable account in that foundation. Do you have a recommendation on how to track these gifts?

How is your finance office tracking them as it doesn't sound like you are depositing the funds in the bank? Do you withdraw the money on a regular basis or when gifts are made?

New scenario for me…assuming you receive notice when $ comes in maybe using gift type of other and create a fund in RE the is your charitable account. If you can use ‘other’ and it's not used for anything else you should be able to exclude it from most financial reports. You don't want to double count the money in financial reports. If ‘other’ is not an option, perhaps ‘other’ with a gift sub-type that could be filtered.

I'm guessing there are other orgs out there who may have this same situation that can share their suggestions.
