BBID valid email domains

I know that there are some email domains that reliably work for BBID; does anyone have a comprehensive list? I'm also wondering how to handle parents who have a work email, for example. Should we just ask them to provide us with a gmail/yahoo/etc. address, or try to push it through to their existing email and then deal individually with addresses that don't work for BBID? How have y'all handled this? I appreciate your insight!

Hi @Lauren Henderson - parents don't need the “initial” invite link to really set up their BBID. Sometimes, they delete it or it goes to their junk/spam. You also, don't need to invite them again.

If they go to your portal login and enter their email address they will see a notice that "Your username is being converted to use Blackbaud ID". When they click “Continue” they will be re-directed to the Blackbaud sign-in page and should select "Sign up" at the bottom to create an account.

Once they sign up they will get an email from Blackbaud to confirm their account. We really haven't had many parents who have not received this email. Sometimes, it does go to their junk/spam folder.

If they never get that email to confirm their account then we ask them for a personal email address. We've never had issues with Gmail, Hotmail, or .me / .icloud emails unless they unsubscribed and got on the Blackbaud blocklist. You can chat with support to ask them if an email has been added to the blocklist.

@Bryan Lorenzo do you have an SSO? As a note, our communications department prefers people to access blackbaud through our Finalsite website/portal. It is an SSO; just wondering how this piece may affect the overall process. I think when we tested it with one user there were a couple extra clicks because of the website portal/sso.

@Lauren Henderson - ah no, we don't use Finalsite so we don't have to worry about that.

We also use Finalsite - and have the SSO set up. We have had issues with parents using a work email address - and the privacy policies of their employer block their access. But no problems with any of the usual “public” domains.

We also have had problems with parents not reading the email with the BBID invitation - and then not scrolling down to the Sign Up link.
