Corporate Matching Gifts

I am interested to hear how others are tracking their Matching gifts. We are using Double the Donation/Match Pro 360 however for us it has not made a huge impact. We have several gifts marked as Match Initiated or Waiting for Donor, however some of these are old enough now that we should have heard from the MG Company.

I don't know what “old enough” is, but it does make me chuckle a bit, because matching gifts can take forever. At a previous employer, I had an individual make a gift on the last day of the calendar to get matched. That organization only disbursed once a year, so it was almost an entire year before those funds got to us. I've seen matches take over a year sometimes, and it is frustrating, because there is not really a way to check and verify the status of these gifts.

I will second what @Dariel Dixon said. We are also Double the Donation users and many companies can take quite a while in disbursements. Year-to-date, we've received 2 of 21 matches initiated. Hang in there!

and this is why I don't even bother to mark it as potential income – you don't know when or if it is coming and it just makes more work at FY End when you have to clean up all the pending and not realized items. I prefer to just mark it as a match when/if the funds arrive and consider it a nice surprise/bonus.

I know others really want to track this. After all these years, dealing with the crazy disbursement schedules, rules for matching constantly changing, no info available on what is coming and when, etc. I personally, don't

Considering that matching gifts are on different schedules, what is best practice in identifying/updating matching gifts? Any tips or resources?
