Donations and Matching Gifts

I have a question about when the company's empolyee makes a donation and the company matches it, but send one check for both the employees donation and matching gift in one check and all of the donors are annonymous. So how do I show this donation as a matching gift on the company's record when I do not know names of those who gave the gift with their personnel amounts?

I'll start with a question. Where are you putting the gift from the unknown employee? On an anonymous/unknown donor record? MG pledge would go in the same place.

That's where we put the employee gift and create a MG for it. MG payment entered on company record and applied to the gift from unknown donor.

@JoAnn Strommen thank JoAnn for the welcome. So I need to make a MG for donors Anonymous in relations to the company and just split the gift 50/50 since the gift is one check for both donors donation and matching gift for the company?

Do you know how to enter a matching gift?

I can't find the kb article with the basics just this one. You have to enter gift on anonymous record and then on gift record or in batch add the match from the company. Then yes, enter a gift from anonymous for half the amount and another gift from the company for the other half.

@Adrian Pitts This is an interesting situation. And one that is probably being overthought. If you don't have any information for the employee as to who made the gift, what is the point of creating a matching gift? At this stage, there is no one to steward for the gift, so is it worth the effort to create a matching gift pledge at all. I would probably just credit the gift to the company (Match and all).

I can't say how much trouble creating pledges for anonymous records can cause if you are not careful. In this case, I would consider what is being gained by even creating a matching gift at all.
