Workplace Giving - Receive matching gift before employee gift

Occasionally we will receive a matching gift from an employer before we receive the gift from the employee. In that scenario we enter a matching placeholder on the employee for $0. We then add a matching gift pledge to the placeholder and update the amount from $0 to the match amount.

I'm wondering what other people do when they receive matching gifts from employers before the employee gift they are matching?

Interesting situation you have. We deal with hundreds of matching gifts but I don't recall ever getting the matching gift payment before the gift. We frequently get requests for MG confirmation before we get the gift but not $.
If your placeholder process is working well for you, that sounds like a good solution.
