Gift Entry: Hard Credit & Soft Credit

I'm still new to gift entry but I'm pretty stomped on this one and it may just be a simple answer.

If a gift came in through the Blackbaud Giving Fund on behalf of Unum (donors employee) and the donor…. who gets the hard credit and who gets the soft credit?

Does Blackbaud Giving Fund get the hard credit and both Unum and the donor get the soft credit? Or does Unum get the hard credit and the donor get the soft credit because it doesn't matter about the Blackbaud Giving Fund because it's a passthrough gift? Just confused.

I suggest you search the forums for past posts on this topic. There are a number. It is done both ways and folks will make a case for their choice. The primary thing is determine a procedure for your organization and stick to it.

Did you look to see what your org has done in the past? I'd sure check that first.

Another factor to consider is how do you want to report on the gifts. Where do you want $ to pull in giving?
