Anonymising/archiving records to keep in line with UK GDPR

If you're UK based, how do you anonymise/archive records of those who've reached the limit of your retention policy? Our is 6 years, and wonder how other charities do this (if they do)?

We scoop these ones (who according to our policy should be archived) out and into an archive database that has extremely restricted access. It had been our initial test database but has been changed to use for this purpose.

@Rachel Cavalier Thanks for this, sounds interesting. I doubt very much we have a test database anywhere that we can re-use but great to get an insight from another user. Thank you!
