How to handle two people with the same name???

We have a teacher and a parent who have the same first and last name. When messaging in Blackbaud, both auto-populate with no way to determine which is the parent and which is the teacher. Has anyone encountered this, and do you have a recommendation for how to clarify?

@David McVicker - Which messaging tool(s) are you referring to?

  • The native Blackbaud messages.

I don't see a way to identify which of the two names belongs to which user.

In my system, the names in the list in the Compose Message dialog do not follow any of the formats defined in Core > Users > User profile settings > User name formats. It is using {Preferedname|Firstname} {Lastname} {GradYear}.

  • Yeah, that's what I saw as well. For now, I've given the teacher a preferred name that includes "(Teacher)." It's an inelegant solution, but it will work for now.

  • I use * at the end of the first name for the faculty/staff record - example: Nancy*

  • We had this issue with a coach, and two parents with the same name. We utilized the maiden name field to distrigused who was who. The text in the maiden name field will show up in parentesis when you search for the name.
