tracking Legacy/Planned Giving in Memberships

Question

I'm wondering if anyone uses Membership to track Legacy/Planned Giving program? Currently, donors who have included us in their will, we code with an attribute as part of our "society" but wondering if it could more easily be managed in Membership? Or is it better to just keep as an attribute. Thanks!

We do, every legator joins a circle which is reflected in the Membership module. It makes it easy to pull out a query of all, invite them to relevant events, add this info to briefing notes etc. But I think an attribute would work too.

I certainly would not use Planned Giving for Membership. Sure you can say it is some kind of membership, but it really isn't, it is Planned Giving. We use the Plan Giving Module but tracking it as an attribute would be fine. I am not sure I would have it as a constituent code as JoAnn said, but if it works for her fine. I would keep it out of Membership, because that is not what that module is for.

We use a constituent code of "Heritage Society" to track those who have plans such as you outlined.
