Are Opportunities Able to be Linked to WITHOUT an existing gift set up already?

We're utilizing opportunities for our grants tracking system in NXT currently, and are still new to all of the features. I know we're able to "link" to an opportunity through an existing pledge, but are we able to link a newly added gift that does NOT have an existing pledge established within the gift area on a record. The question came about that if we create an opportunity on a record, should it not automatically ask you if you want to link the newly-being-added gift to that at the time of entry? Curious if we're missing a step somewhere on that boat???? Thank you! ~Denise

We use Opportunities all the time and many of our opportunities are still in the planning/ask stage, so there is not gift to link. But if we add a gift, it will not automatically ask if you want to link a gift, although my Database Manager said it used to. But we do create a business query for all proposals so that when enter a gift it will ask about an opportunity. I will say that we do this in Database View as opposed to RE NXT, but some gift officers will enter Opportunities in RE NXT.

  • Is that a business rule you're using or an actual query you manually run since you mentioned about it asking about an opportunity? You've peaked my interest.

In database view you can set up a batch to automatically display Proposal, after entering the line it will prompt you - you can see some screenshots of batch set up and where it allows you to link to a proposal. I think this is on the roadmap - can anyone confirm that?
