Differentiating the responsibilities between a RE Database manager to that of an administrator

The university is small so we were multiple hats. The administrator role was primarily with the IT department which is changing shortly and am taking up more responsibilities of the administrator. I need some guidance on how other organizations define the two roles. I know a lot of places the roles are clearly separated.
