Managing Relationship Records

Hey all,

I've realized over the years we've had a lot of relationship records created with a lot of them being duplicates and some of them for people that now have constituent records. Is there any effective way to manage them by merging them? The relationship records still hold some relevant info like event participation but I don't feel like making them into constituents just to merge and delete is a very good way of going about it.

Thanks!

  • Are you trying to merge non-constituents into one non-constituent record? In database view, if you go to Plug-Ins, there's a tool called "Nonconstituent Merge Utility."

That said, I just ran into a case of a duplicate non-constituent the other day and found that this tool is not picking that person up. I have on my to-do list to contact support and see if there is any other way to merge these non-constituents. Like you, I would rather not have to make these constituents just to merge them.

I used this tool a lot at my old org, as prior people had added students' parishes and elementary schools as non-constituent records. It was quite helpful. For many of those, I seem to recall merging all the non-constituent records together and then taking the final one and creating a constituent record to merge into the already existing constituent record. It takes time and patience for sure but is so rewarding to see that number of duplicates drop.

  • Thank you @James Belich and @Miki Martin this is super helpful information! I forget that DV has some really helpful plugins.

    Thanks!
