Applying tax to portion of ticket cost?

Do you have a workaround to charge tax on only part of an event ticket? Say your total event ticket is $100 and tax is only charged on $60 of the ticket while the other $40 is not taxed.

We host dinner events that include a ticket to other events happening at our museum. So the catered part of the ticket is taxable income and event part of it is not. Traditionally we have just built the tax into the price of the ticket, but that creates headaches for accounting and we want to find a workaround for more transparent pricing to the consumer.

Hello @Paige Koenig! My name is Rosita Bradham and I'm actually your Customer Success Manager! It sounds like your event is fundraising event. Within Altru, the Event section is where you can configure fundraising special events where you need to calculate the tax deduction of the "ticket". By default, we cannot apply a tax to these special events, because they are fundraisers. The taxes you pay a vendor for food is passed to the donors via the "Cost" field.

    Please see screen shot below:

Here, the total cost of ticket for a Couple (2) is $475. Of that there are $200 worth of costs that the donor cannot write off, leaving $275 as the receipt amount and tax deduction. Your finance department will pay the vendor their costs plus any tax, which should be covered by the gross revenue of your event.

I'll reach out to you directly to see if you have any further questions.
