Blackbaud University Day: Meet Your Instructor Shelley!
Published
Hello from Charleston, South Carolina! My name is Shelley Hindmon, and you may have seen me in your training classes for Raiser’s Edge and Raiser’s Edge NXT, eTapestry, and Organizational Best Practices. You can catch me teaching Raiser’s Edge sessions this year at Blackbaud University Day!
My passion for using technology to improve a nonprofit’s processes brought me to Blackbaud almost three years ago. Before I became an instructor, I worked as an annual giving fundraiser and grant writer for a secondary boarding school and for a college.
I went to my first conference as a grant writer, while implementing Raiser’s Edge at the school. I attended days of sessions on a variety of techniques and skills. However, what I remember most are the conversations I had with other grant writers about how they managed prospects in their databases. Not only did I have tangible ideas to implement when I returned to the office, but I learned how each school managed their fundraising efforts in their own unique way. Everything I learned during my time at that conference made me that much more successful—from both a technology and an overall fundraising perspective.
I saw the same spark in the eyes of everyone who attended last year’s Blackbaud University Day! It was great to see clients whom I taught online or in person over the previous years and to meet so many new faces. The Blackbaud University Day sessions were a great way for me to show off cool tips and tricks in a database. But even more so, it gave me an opportunity to connect to other organizations like yours, which as you know is my favorite part of any conference.
The Best Practices sessions were some of my favorite sessions because we could talk about the challenges faced by nonprofits and give you the confidence to meet those challenges head-on! The technology-based courses also provided an outlet to show and discuss specific needs for a product that we may not teach in our online or in-person regional classes.
Last year, after the Raiser’s Edge: Optimizing and Using Constituent Codes session, I had a database administrator tell me that they learned exactly what they needed to go back to work and clean up their constituent codes. They were so excited that I would be surprised if they even made it back to the office before they got started!
You can learn more about the sessions I will be running here, and see the full list of Blackbaud University Day sessions here!
I hope to see you at Blackbaud University Day on October 8! It will be a magical experience that could help you solve some of your greatest challenges and invigorate you for the coming year!
