Tracking Appeals and Packages on Opportunities

Question

Hi Community! Since there are only Campaign and Fund fields included on Opportunity records, I'm wondering if and how others have been tracking Appeals and Packages on these. Appeals and Packages house important nuance for grant funding (like specific program information) so it would be great to have a queryable way of tracking this. Is this another instance of using custom fields?

It makes no sense to me why fields that exist on a Gift record wouldn't exist on an Opportunity record since an opportunity essentially predicts the other.

@Karen Diener here's a made-up example:

Campaign: 2027 Advancement (versus Membership, Underwriting, etc)

Fund: Arts and Culture

Appeal: ArtBound Season 3

Package: Production (versus Acquisition)

We provide robust reporting on revenue toward local programming versus distributed media (package), and like to be able to group by Pillar (fund) versus Program (Appeal, usually). Right now, our grant forecasting in those areas has to be cobbled together manually. I

Interesting!  Appeals typically represent a marketing effort / solicitation while Fund records indicate a program or area of funding.  What would the gift coding for a grant look like in RE?
