Synchronizing Affluence Insight™ Via RP-RE Integration
Now that the ResearchPoint-Raiser’s Edge integration includes the ability to select Affluence Insight™ – formerly known as Target Analytics Affluence – data points with synchronizing records, clients are starting to ask if they should include these analytics when selecting which fields they want to share as part of the integration process. I think the answer depends upon several factors.
First of all, below are screen shots going through the process configuring the fields I’m referencing as part of the integration between these two software packages, and the steps below assume that you have the technical aspects of your integration set up. For more information on setting up integration from the beginning, please reference the following:
Steps for adding Target Analytics Affluence do your integration:
This all leads to thinking through the possibilities with the Affluence Insight data results that reside in your ResearchPoint subscription. If you imported your Affluence results into your Raiser’s Edge database, then you might not want to include it as part of the integration since the data will already be on a prospect record. But if you did not import the Affluence data into RE, you may want to synchronize a single record or group of top scoring records into RE using a Research List. That way at least your top major gift prospects will have the data in RE. I do recommend that at least the Donor Categories (a.k.a. the Wealth Segmentation field) of A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, etc. be included in your integration. Then your can utilize the data by customizing your appeals and communications based on the philanthropic mottos described within these segments. For more information on utilizing Affluence Insight data for annual giving efforts, please reference this blog by Liza Turcotte up on the Target Analytics Community entitled, “How Can Affluence Insight™ Inform Your Annual Fund Efforts?” As an overall suggestion, it is a best practice to upload these aforementioned Donor Categories into RE.
The next question is to think about whether or not you wish to integration and/or upload the Wealth Attributes, Annual Income, Discretionary Spending, Net Worth and Invested Assets, into Raiser’s Edge. This will depend upon your organization. If you wish to segment based on these wealth attributes within Raiser’s Edge for your annual fund efforts, then the answer is yes, and I recommend uploading the results file vs. doing via integration. If you wish to just utilize it for major gift efforts, you may wish to use the RP-RE integration instead, and again, synchronize single records or groups of top major gift prospect records via Research Lists. Some of my RE clients upload this data, but ensure proper interpretation of the data with other development colleagues first and/or restrict access to viewing this data if you prefer to do so. It is important to understand that these four wealth attributes are based on models and are estimates based on consumer marketing data, public wealth data, and proprietary sources. An excellent blog by David Lamb entitled, “Where do Target Analytics Affluence values come from?” will be helpful to you and your colleagues in understanding these Wealth Attribute values.
The bottom line is that there are different scenarios for each circumstance, but hopefully this blog helps you with some thoughts around whether or not to add the Affluence data to your RP-RE integration process. Please feel free to share your thoughts on this subject.
