Coming Soon – Local Drive Access from Blackbaud Hosting Services!

Published
One of the most popular requests from our Hosted users is the ability to connect directly to local drives on the user’s machine. Our Hosting team has been dedicated to bringing this functionality to our users, and we have great news – it's coming this month!

What does this mean to your organization? When Exporting, Importing, and running Reports or Mailings, you will now see an option for your local drive (such as the C: drive):

Choose export file screen

Note: You may continue to receive the following prompt when exporting, but you can click OK and continue to successfully export the file:

Error message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."

The default location on the local drive is the main section of the drive. If you wish to direct the file to a specific folder in your Documents, you can get to it by selecting the following:
Local Disk > Users > (your user name) > My Documents > (desired folder).
This location will then become the default location while you remain connected to the same Citrix session. If you log out and log back in, you will need to drill down into that location again. If you always send your files to the same location, you can set this up in your User Options.
For example, in The Raiser’s Edge this is under Tools > User Options > File Locations:

Usert Options screen

Additional Notes:

  • Users will still need to use the Files folder for some functions, such as Queues, Crystal Reports, and Media
  • Network drives will not be accessible, only locally mounted drives.
  •  Although we have not seen or experienced this, there is a possibility for latency when running larger jobs, since the application will now need to communicate from the server across the internet directly to the local drive on the user’s machine.

If you have questions, please create a case on Case Central, choose your product, and select the Blackbaud Application Hosting topic.
