Blackbaud Hosting Password Requirements

Published
Due to the PCI security requirements, Citrix passwords for our hosted users expire every 90 days. After 75 days users will begin to see a prompt notifying them of the upcoming password expiration. If the password is not reset within 90 days, the Change Password screen will appear at the next login. Users have the ability to reset their password at any time by selecting Settings > Change Password. Proactively changing the password will reset the 90-day expiration timer.

There are times when an administrative or power user may need to reset the Citrix user for a colleague through the User Administration icon in the Blackbaud Hosting portal. Steps to complete this, including a demo video, can be found in Knowledgebase solution, How to reset a Blackbaud Application Hosting user’s password (includes demo).

The system accepts strong passwords that meet the following complexity requirements:

  • Cannot contain all or part of the user’s account name
  • Cannot be one of the user’s 10 previous passwords
  • Cannot contain hyphens
  • Must be at least eight characters in length
  • Must contain characters from three of the four categories:

    • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • English lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphabetic characters (e.g. $, #, %)

If you attempt to update the password from the User Administration icon and the new password does not meet the complexity requirements, the following error may be received:

Error: The password for 'username' cannot be set due to insufficient privileges.  Windows will attempt to disable this account.  If this attempt fails, the account will become a security risk.  Contact an administrator as soon as possible to repair this.  Before this user can log on, the password should be set, and the account must be enabled.

To resolve this error, simply enter a new password that meets the above complexity requirements. Documentation for this error and the resolution can be found in Knowledgebase solution Error: The password for ‘username’ cannot be set due to insufficient privileges.
