Using incentives and rewards
Are your fundraisers having trouble hitting their targets? Want to make your fundraisers feel a little bit special?
Here’s a few ideas, and some examples of incentives that organizations and JustGiving have found success with.
Special t-shirts or fundraising vests
- Reward your fundraisers with ‘Finisher’ t-shirts
- Consider different colored/designed shirts for those that have hit their target
- Give your fundraisers a branded vest to wear on the day
Who did it well?
Anthony Nolan award their top 5 fundraisers a special running vest in reverse colours (green rather than black) so they can be spotted on the day and treated like VIPs.
Give your fundraisers the VIP treatment
- Do shout outs to your fundraisers on social media, your website, and event page
- Create a sense of urgency and hype with a leaderboard celebrating your top fundraisers
- Highlight your fundraiser of the week on social
Branded goods
Fundraisers love receiving branded goodies - think t-shirts, tote bags, mugs, sweatbands, pens, badges and gifts
How could you do it?
Make a pack of fundraising goodies for the first 100 fundraisers to comment on a Facebook post. Do this and you could have 100 comments on the post within a matter of hours.
Time-based ‘Win a donation’ incentives
- Ask a corporate partner or major donor to donate to your fundraisers
- Create some urgency by adding a time limit to your incentive
Here’s an example you could use:
‘If you raise X amount by X date you could win a $200 donation to your page or if you raise $500 by X date, X company will kindly match your donations with an extra $500!’
Medals
- Ask a corporate partner or major donor to sponsor the cost of medals for your top fundraisers
- Give medals to fundraisers who hit their targets
- Haven’t got the budget for a physical medal? How about a digital medal for your fundraisers?
Who did it well?
Created a special digital medal for your fundraisers that they could share on social media.
Experiences
Experiences are a lovely way to reward your fundraisers and connect them to your charity. These could range from:
- Offering a meal with your team
- Tickets to events
- A tour of the charity workplace (i.e a hospital)
- Visiting a project
Luxury prizes
Why not treat your high value fundraisers who put in extra effort to a luxury prize like:
- Tickets to an event or show
- Vouchers for food or drink
- A spa day, a massage…
