Introducing New Blackbaud Marketplace Permissions

Published

Coming soon: Blackbaud is improving how customers connect SKY applications to their Blackbaud products.

In keeping with the principle of least privilege, we have introduced additional, more fine-grained controls over who can manage applications in the Blackbaud Marketplace.

Now organization admins may assign permissions with a greater level of granularity to enable any user to manage SKY applications in the Marketplace. Admins can decide who gets to connect and disconnect applications, and who can approve scope changes.

We’re also giving customers the ability to create a Marketplace user management role. This role has the ability to add additional users to manage applications.

This change is being released to customers in waves. Once the new permissions are released in a customer's environment, they'll be able to create these roles and assign them to users in the following places:

  • From the Admin Console, select Security to access Security roles and User management.
  • From your Blackbaud product, navigate to Control Panel, Security to access Security roles and User management. If you have multiple products in your Blackbaud environment, you can set up and assign these permissions from any one of them. You don’t have to set them up in each one.

Note: There will be a Marketplace admin role available by default that includes all the Marketplace permissions that can be assigned to a user.

Also by default, organization admins have the Marketplace permissions included in their role. If you previously were an environment admin, you will have the new Marketplace permissions assigned automatically for you. If something happens and you don’t, contact your organization admin to get it resolved.

To determine who your Blackbaud organization admins are, from the User Profile Organizations page, see the Key people tile.

When is the change happening?

Waves begin March 19, 2024.

This is a great step - any future plans on giving admins the ability to control user access to add-ins?

Thanks, Kurt! We know about the need for admins to control who can see SKY Add-ins from certain apps. It's not planned for the short term but possible we can get to it at the end of the year or next year.
