#GivingTuesday is s a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.  It takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.  It is an excellent opportunity to engage your supporters in a new way, acquire donors, and build momentum going into the holiday giving season.

At everydayhero, we pride ourselves in forging the path towards the next generation of fundraising.  We know that things are changing faster in this space than ever before. The market for doing good and social good – is not solely “owned” by non-profits anymore.  And while this is exciting, it is also putting new pressure on organizations to figure out how to organize and interact. While everydyahero is relatively new in the US (we made the trek from down under in 2014 after becoming a part of the Blackbaud family).  But for nearly 35 years, serving the philanthropic market has been our primary and ONLY focus at Blackbaud.

So as the landscape continues to change, Blackbaud and everydayhero are at the forefront, prioritizing innovation and thought leadership.  Part of being a leader in the social good movement, is staying actively engaged on behalf of the nonprofit sector and our customers, and facilitating new approaches for doing in the world.

For example, just a few years ago while we were still on the white sand beaches of Australia, Blackbaud was one of the founding influencers to launch the #GivingTuesday global movement.  In it’s first year, #GivingTuesday raised $28 million.  Impressive.  But not nearly as impressive as the fact that just 3 short years later, in 2016, individuals raised $168 million for nonprofits all over the world on #GivingTuesday.

Ensure you’re prepared to take advantage of the millions of dollars raised and donated on #GivingTuesday by following these 3 easy steps:

STEP 1: PREPARE

Ever heard of Christmas in July? It’s a day in July when Australians (gotta love ‘em) actually celebrate Christmas in July (in an effort to enjoy the festivities during the winter).  What’s that have to do with #GivingTuesday?  While we’re not advocating that you launch your #GivingTuesday in June or July, we are definitely suggesting that you start thinking about it.  Make sure to consider how #GivingTuesday will fit into your Fall and Winter calendar. And while you’re at it, go ahead and whip up some gingerbread or pumpkin pie, in honor of those wild and crazy Aussie’s.

STEP 2: MAKE A PLAN

Use our free expert resources to help you craft your plan.  If you’ve participated in #GivingTuesday in the past, review your plan and your outcomes, and evaluate what changes might make to be more effective.  If this the first year you’re planning to get involved in #GivingTuesday, consider reaching out to your everydayhero Customer Success Manager and letting them know.  We’re here to help!

STEP 3: LEVERAGE THE POWER OF THE CROWD

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." --Helen Keller.  Make sure you include a peer-to-peer fundraising component in your #GivingTuesday efforts. By enabling and encouraging a supporter or donor to become a fundraiser, you turn that donor into a magnet for new donors as they seek support from their friends and family.  What would remain a single donation instantly takes on new potential to grow into dozens or even hundreds more thanks to the multiplier effect that is inherent to peer-to-peer fundraising.

Whether you’re new to #GivingTuesday or a seasoned expert; whether you’re a newbie peer-to-peer fundraising or an experienced veteran, there’s always room for more twinkle lights when you’re celebrating Christmas in July or planning for your #GivingTuesday campaign.
