Happy Tuesday! Here are the latest features in Blackbaud Church Management!

Small groups
For a better follow-up experience, you can now customize who is notified when a prospective group member requests to join a small group. Previously, notifications were sent to a single email address set by the church admin. Now, notification preferences can be sent to either the church admin or the small group leader. To customize, from Constituents, Settings, select Small groups.

Under Small group search, select Edit to enter an email address for admins to receive small group search notifications.

Next, select whether to send notifications to the admin or the small group leader. To send all notifications to small group leaders, but also copy the admin, select CC admin on all requests.

Note: If you choose to send requests to only small group leaders, but a leader is missing an email address, notifications are sent to the admin instead.

For more information, see Small Group Settings.

Volunteers
To help manage the list of volunteer opportunities, you can now select to show or hide volunteer opportunities that have been canceled.

By default, only active volunteer opportunities will now appear under Volunteer opportunities on the event record. To view canceled volunteer opportunities, select Include canceled opportunities. For more information, see Opportunity Records.

Hi Charles! Thanks for your question! I'm glad to hear that you set up the admin email though I think there might be a little miscommunication in how this email address is used. The settings that are described on this page only control behavior on the Small Group Search Page.

To help facilitate people in your church find and plug into a Small Group, we created the Small Group Search Page as a public-facing page that shows all small groups which have indicated they are "Seeking New Participants". The small group name, location, primary meeting schedule, and description are all shown on this page. (To access this go to your Constituents > Small Groups, click on the Share button at the top and then select "Small Groups search page link" and copy and paste it into a web browser). You will notice that for every small group on this page, there is a "Request to join" button. When you click on this button, the user's email client will open with a pre-populated message and one or more email addresses will populate the To and CC fields. Controlling which email addresses show up in the To and CC fields is what is being described on this page. Sorry for the miscommunication and please let me know if you have any further questions about this.

I am interested in how you expected this to work. Do you have a need or desire for a notification to be sent when someone is added to a Small Group? If so, can you help me understand who you would want notified and what you would expect them to do upon receiving the notification? Thanks!
I set the email notification to send to small group leader and the admin. But when I tested it by adding a person to my small group, I did not receive an email and the admin did not receive one either. Does it take a certain amount of time or is this just for adding new constituents to a small group. I added someone who was already in the database, or do I have some other problem?
