How Do You Analyze Your Data?

Published
I take a lot of surveys and so many of them ask, “Are you the first one of your friends to try new technology?” You might assume that working at a software company my answer would be a resounding “Yes!” But it’s not. Truth be told, I’m typically the one that waits until everyone has tried something and then I dip my toes in the pool.

So, as I was learning to use Altru, I found the Query functionality to be especially robust. I can find out almost anything I need to know using Query. And, after taking our two Query classes (Altru: Query 1 and Altru: Query 2) I still wanted to know more. Especially after I read Luke Hedgren’s blog on the Tableau visualizations you can build using your Altru data. That got me thinking—how do you build robust data analysis outside of Altru?

The answer is simple—OData. I had to learn more. I checked out Blackbaud University’s Altru: Data Analysis course, which just went through an update. OData is one of the three topics covered in that class. And once you learn how to connect to an OData feed, you can do it in either Microsoft Excel or Tableau.

So if you’re interested in learning more about OData, KPIs, and the built-in reports in Altru, Data Analysis is the class for you.

I can still say I’m slow to adopt new technology, but when I’m curious, I know I need to get more information.
