Important Update: Blackbaud ID Enhancements and Your Users
As part of our continuous effort to enhance the security and stability of Blackbaud solutions, an upcoming change to Blackbaud ID will benefit your organization and users.
These changes will:
-
Improve the reliability of Blackbaud ID
-
Offer an easier, more intuitive user sign-in experience
Starting in late March 2024, users of Raiser’s Edge NXT™, Financial Edge NXT™, and other business solutions will see a new, improved sign-in page. Starting April 16, users of education solutions will also receive the new experience. All users should see the improved sign-in page by the end of April.
What will Education solution users experience after the changes?
- All users who land on the Blackbaud ID sign in page will see an improved look, which places your organization’s logo more centrally on the page.
- Email/Password users who sign in with multi-factor authentication (MFA) will be prompted to set up their MFA connection again.
- Email/Password users (e.g. students, payers, or applicants) who aren’t enrolled in MFA won’t need to take action.
- Users who sign in with Apple or Google will be prompted to re-authorize Blackbaud to access their name and email.
What if my organization uses single sign-on (SSO)?
- Organizations that use SSO will need their SSO Admin to set up a new connection between May and October 31. Organizations who don’t set up the new connection may experience loss of access to their solutions.
- We will notify SSO Admins when the new configuration settings are available for use.
- If an SSO admin configures the new connection by October, then SSO users will not need to take any action. Their sign-in experience will not change.
- After October, users on an expired SSO connection will be prompted to validate their email address using one of the other authentication methods – via social sign-in (Google/Apple) or by a confirmation code retrieved from their email inbox.
- This admin has access to manage accounts with your Identity Provider (IdP). For most schools, your IdP is Google or Microsoft. The admin is the only person who will need to complete the 15-30 minute configuration. Your end users on SSO will not notice a difference.
- The new SSO connection is not open yet; it is not time for action. SSO admins will be notified when the new configuration is ready for use, and that communication will include links to the appropriate documentation.
- We’re aiming to maximize the time you know about this upcoming change, so you can ensure your back-to-school plans include this important setup step.
What happens to a user who can log into both a business solution (like Blackbaud Raisers Edge NXT™) and an education solution?
- During the month of April, users who access both business solutions and education solutions may experience the new and old login - both will continue to work.
- All users who initiate the login workflow from one of the following education solutions will always flow through the new Blackbaud ID page starting on April 16.
- Blackbaud K–12 Solutions™:
- Blackbaud Enrollment Management System™
- Blackbaud Learning Management System™
- Blackbaud Student Information System™
- Blackbaud School Website System™
- Blackbaud Billing Management System™
- Tuition Management
- Blackbaud Financial Aid Management
- Blackbaud K–12 Solutions™:
- By the end of April all users on all solutions will see the improved login experience.
- All users who initiate the login workflow from one of the following education solutions will always flow through the new Blackbaud ID page starting on April 16.
- Regardless, the user will only have to take their migration action once.
- Email/password users will not be prompted to create a new MFA connection more than once.
- Social sign-in users will not have to re-authorize Blackbaud to access their name and email more than once.
- As a reminder, SSO users will not see any change.
