The Giving Score Blog Series: Issue 8

Can you believe it’s already June?

Summer is almost upon us and June is the last month to enter The Giving Score Contest to win a free pass to BBCON (which will also be here before you know it)!  Remember, to enter the contest all you have to do is run The Giving Score and email thegivingscore@blackbaud.com with a quick blurb on how you use the tool at your organization. How easy is that?

And our May winners are…

Congratulations to Jennifer Gempp of The Preservation Society of Newport County and Michelle Norfleet of Norfolk State University, who were selected as our May contest winners of $100 each!  Here is what they had to say about how they use The Giving Score:

“We are entering a $20 million comprehensive campaign and the giving score will help us narrow down the top groups to focus on.  We also have ResearchPoint so I intend to use The Giving Score and sync queries into ResearchPoint.  Our goal is to find those constituents who are fans to us but may not have been engaged so we can cultivate them for a larger gift.

- Jennifer L. Gempp, Institutional Advancement Data Manager & Analyst, The Preservation Society of Newport County

“We’ve just run The Giving Score and plan to better segment our database to prepare for our end of the year appeal that the VP wants to go to the entire database. Now I will have the backing of the giving score to show which constituents we should be mailing to and which ones we should be using a different approach. The Giving Score will also be an asset coupled with the Target Analytics modeling.”

- Michelle R. Norfleet Irby, Prospect Researcher & Database Coordinator, Norfolk State University

I also wanted to highlight some of the great responses we have gotten from the contest so far from these Giving Score Champions:

“Two weeks ago, Weinstein Hospice upgraded to Raiser’s Edge 7.92. What a version enhancement! By far the most valuable part for us is The Giving Score function. Recently, I was asked by our Board to develop a query that would show all our ‘Friends of Hospice’ Campaign donors, and what they gave each year from 2002-2012. While this is a VERY important step in qualifying our donors over time (especially to see who might have ‘dropped off our donor map’ in recent years), it doesn’t give us an accurate picture of who on our list COULD give more. And if we had a constituent in our database who has never given to this campaign, they were NOT EVEN ON OUR RADAR! They may be ‘Long Shots’, but at least we ‘have a shot’ now, which is more than we had before. The Giving Score adds a new ‘3-D’ element to our donor analysis. I’m looking forward to presenting this at our Board Meeting in June.  We have also signed up for AddressFinder and DeceasedFinder to make sure our donor information is correct and up to date.

- Cory Shaw, Office Manager, Weinstein Hospice

“We recently updated our database with The Giving Score on April 29; our first use of The Giving Score was in August.  We also recently screened our database with the Fundraising Essentials product.  Using these two screenings has allowed us to target our solicitations; both email and physical mail, to ensure we include the right people in our mailings, and also exclude those that do not give to us.  These two screenings also allow us to tailor our tasks.  Based on the scores and combined with cumulative giving we recently including suggested gift strings in our Spring Direct Mail appeal, with those who tend to give lower amounts getting the standard levels, and those who tend to give higher amounts have a higher level.  In just a couple weeks the appeal has raised more than $12,000, more than twice what it had raised in that same period last year!  We will continue to screen our database with The Giving Score at least twice a year, as it is a product that works!

- Randall McLeod, Associate Director Database Services, Pulmonary Hypertension Association

All of these Raiser’s Edge power users above are in the running to win a free pass to BBCON, which will be announced next month!  What are you waiting for?  Run The Giving Score today!
