Welcome to March’s Stuff You Need to Know topic, Security & Logins!

Hi RE Community! Welcome to March’s Stuff You Need to Know topic, Security & Logins!

Security & Logins are functions of The Raiser’s Edge that protect your database by letting you determine which users have access to the information and what they can do with it. For Stuff You Need to Know this month, we’ve highlighted some of our resources for managing this access your Raiser’s Edge, including the Administration guide and more.

We’ll also be hosting a Live Chat later this month, with demos, discussion, and a Q&A. You can also stop by our Forum Contest, where you can show off your knowledge!

This month’s Get You Started Quick Tip is to visit your Raiser’s Edge Security area and to run a Group Profile on a Security Group’s settings and users:
  1. Click on Admin in The Raiser’s Edge menu
  2. Click on Security
  3. Under Groups, right click on a security group name and select Preview or Print. OR double click to open the group name and then select File > Preview or Print.

You’ll get a full profile that starts like this below (with X meaning access, blank meaning no access, and N/A meaning there is no checkbox to set):

Keep in mind the following:
  • Users with Supervisor rights will not be listed in any group.
  • If a user is in more than one security group, a permission in one group (a check) will override no permissions (unchecked) in all the other groups that they are in.
  • Security for Online Express and Raiser’s Edge NXT web view starts here. Access to features in those products are then granted in their respective security areas.
  • Start by giving users rights to just what they need -- to get the info they need and the features to complete their tasks. Generally, it’s easier to add rights than to take away.
  • And don’t forget to ask a user Exit and sign out and log back in to see new rights if you change their rights and they are logged in to The Raiser’s Edge when you do so.

I have always tracked this information by hand in a excel spreadsheet... good to know I can print it off to check my records!
