I have a web-view gift, not recurring and not pledge. Not finding a way to delete. On the gift record is option supposed to be in Edit dropdown?
I agree with @Karen Diener, good step but not sufficient.
Improvements are coming. We ensured that we had the same conditions in our web view logic that we have in our database view delete (for web view gifts). If you gift has a transaction associated with it for a CC or DD, that can also prevent deletion and a refund or adjustments could be the advised workflow.
The ability to delete gifts is a step in the right direction, but still too restrictive. I hope that this will continue to be refined, because there are important use cases for deleting gifts sometimes!
Completely agree about test transactions, but how would you define those? I add gifts through batches to demonstrate that process. I add them through online donation forms with dummy credit card numbers. They are added so we can train on the acknowledgement process, check online donation forms and receipt functionality, I have done trainings with staff on posting gifts to the GL so they feel comfortable with RE / FE integration. I have also done it for customers who AREN'T using FE but still make use of GL assignment and posting process.
Honestly, the ability to delete any gift is necessary. I understand that adjusting is a better option but sometimes it just makes more sense to delete a gift.
I was working with an organization and a client payment was accidentally added to their record as a donation. There was concern that this would implicitly identify them as a client receiving services I don't recall the specifics anymore - and there was important confidentiality around that. Rather than adjusting the gift, we deleted it.
There are a lot of instances where pledge payments are not added to the correct pledge. Even if that is noticed immediately after gift entry - before any reporting or posting has been done - it would be easier to delete it and enter it correctly.
The inability to delete gifts, rather than adjust to $0, can be very time-consuming and results in a messy gift screen. I've worked with plenty of fundraisers who already have trouble understanding pledges and payments, or the difference between recurring gifts and their payments, and cluttering screens with $0 gifts just adds to the confusion.
Life can be kind of messy out here, and the ability to delete feels so restrictive that it is nearly worthless.
We have plans to extend this pretty quickly. One main piece of feedback we have received is that test transactions should be delete-able and we will be putting that in place. If there are other scenarios that you feel should be included please feel free to let me know.
