Raise More By Adding Peer-to-Peer Fundraising To Your Event

Published

The Olympics happened. My friend ran a marathon in London. I was invited to an in-person gala for November. What do these things have in common?

Events are starting to make a comeback.

That being said, I think it will be a while before we are back to 100% mass in-person events. Hybrid events continue to be recommended for safe gatherings that can help protect your revenue while you build community relationships.

Whether you are hosting a gala, golf event, 5k or some super fun and creative experience, promoting your event, collecting registrations, and tracking progress is essential. With the added benefits of peer-to-peer fundraising, you can multiply your impact while increasing supporter engagement and brand awareness. Let’s explore how you can easily prompt event registrants to fundraise with JustGiving from Blackbaud.

Offer Peer-to-Peer Fundraising with your Raiser’s Edge NXT Event

Overview: This process allows United States-based organizations to create an Event in Raiser’s Edge NXT and build a supporting Campaign Page in JustGiving. Then, you’ll invite registrants to fundraise after they have signed up for your event via the Event’s Confirmation Page or email; you can modify the text with a call to action for personal fundraising, which will route the page viewer to a JustGiving page.

Let’s get started...

First, create a campaign in JustGiving.

  1. In JustGiving, under the Campaigns tab, create a new campaign. We recommend you name it something similar to your RENXT Event as this will be supporter-facing.

  1. Enable P2P pages and supply the page defaults.

  1. Create an event (can be the same name as your NXT event) and once approved, associate it to your campaign.

  1. Publish your campaign.

The published campaign can act as a landing page for donations and fundraisers related to your event.

Second, create your Event in Raiser’s Edge NXT.

  1. On your Event page, setup your registration fees and define your default fund on the Fees tile. You’ll need to do this before you setup your online registration form.

  1. On the Online Registration tab (US organizations only) create a new form.

  1. On Step 3- the Confirmations tab, enter in your Email subject, From name and From email address. Then choose to “Open Email Designer” to edit the confirmation email.

  1. In the Email Designer, paste in your link to the JustGiving fundraising page. Add content and images to encourage registrants to setup a fundraising page. Save your email.

  1. Under the Confirmation Page section, select to “redirect registrants to a webpage on my organization’s website.” Enter the URL of the page you want to use. This can be a page on your organization’s website, or you can link registrants directly to the JustGiving page of your choice by pasting in the URL.

Your event in Raiser’s Edge NXT will be the point of registration for your attendees. Once they are registered, the page will refresh to the confirmation page, where you can invite them to fundraise through JustGiving.

Third, map your JustGiving campaign.

Once you have set up the integration with Raiser’s Edge NXT and JustGiving, you can bring over the valuable P2P insights. The data flows from JustGiving to NXT and to make sure the data comes over associated to the proper fund, you should review the mapping for new gifts associated to the campaign you created in Step 1 above.

For each JustGiving campaign and event, you can set a fund, appeal, and campaign.

  1. In Raiser’s Edge NXT, go to Settings Overrides> Edit.

  1. On the JustGiving campaign or event, select Edit.

  1. Search for your existing Raiser's Edge NXT's fund, appeal, package, and campaign to apply to all new gifts from this JustGiving campaign or event (they will likely match what you established for your NXT Event).

With this process, you can collect registrations on your form through Raiser’s Edge NXT while also offering attendees the valuable opportunity to fundraise on your behalf. The use cases are endless but here are some of our favorites:

  • Encourage virtual participation types to fundraise $250 and when they do, mail them some merchandise from the event

  • Allow attendees to raise the cost of their ticket price

  • Offer peer-to-peer fundraising as an optional way to further support your cause

  • Invite Table Captains to also be Team Captains in peer-to-peer fundraising with a reward going to the table/team that raises the most online

  • Enhance the in-person experience with a peer-to-peer fundraising component leading up to event day, multiplying your actual results

  • Ask influential supporters to bring awareness to your event by fundraising
