Newest Champion: Laura Barnett of Blanton Museum of Art

Meet Laura Barnett, our newest community member to hit Champ status! She's been working at the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin, TX for the past 10 years, but has over 15 years of museum experience. Looking forward to seeing her advice in the community! Get to know her in the interview below:
A little about Laura:
My current title is Manager of Membership. I started out on the education side of things at a science center and planetarium, went to graduate school for Museum Science, and then landed in membership almost 10 years ago when I started working at the Blanton.
What’s your area of expertise?
In general, I guess I would say membership and database administration, although I certainly do not think I am an expert. There is always more to learn!
Regarding Altru, I am a relatively new user, but I really enjoy query. I probably win 70% of the time and it beats me the other 30% - then I get on chat with Rachel, Lauren, Jessica, or Alisa!
What is your favorite thing about the community?
It is always nice to find someone who is dealing with the same issues that you are dealing with. It’s the same feeling you get at a conference only you don't have to travel.
What’s your favorite topic/discussion to date?
The most helpful discussion was a topic about reporting on first year vs. multi year members. It was interesting to see how other membership colleagues are handling it.
What’s on your to-do list for 2015?
I have 2 major Altru to-dos. I want to get all of the membership stats that we need sorted out. That’s been my biggest challenge since converting in May. Everything is so different. I also want to get a handle on the duplicate records from our conversion. I need a few more hours in the day or days in the week to find time for it. I am registered for the Duplicate Masterclass, though. Hoping that will help!
Other than that, I am just super happy to be working and living in Austin. It is an amazing city. We have fun here!
