Shannon Knight, Champion #3

Our search for Altru champions continues! We are excited to welcome Shannon Knight, Director of Special Projects for the RISD Museum, to the group, taking us from a couple to a few. Get to know Shannon below (or check our her Member Monday feature), and catch up with our other champions here.



What do you like best about Altru?

Narrowing it down to one thing is tough. I really like that...

  • the interface is pretty intuitive and easy to use
    
  • it provides a single repository for all of our constituent data
    
  • Altru empowers my users to work with their data so they can be more efficient and make better decisions
    
  • it's browser based, so I can work on it from anywhere
    
  • online registration for events and membership and online giving
    
  • there are multiple ways to do things so that we can choose the one that best matches our organizational needs
    
  • tech support is so responsive and helpful
    
  • the development teams frequently solicit input on new features and functionality
    
  
  

If I had to choose only one, it would be that it empowers my users. I really like that they feel ownership of the information relevant to their jobs and get excited about using the tools available. This is a huge change from the way our previous system allowed us to work: a black-box that only a few select people -- most of whom were in another department at the school and not even part of the Museum -- could get information out.

What is your favorite thing about the community?

The quick responses to new posts. And that there are often existing posts from those who have encountered my issue already.

On a more emotional level, it was awfully nice to know we weren't alone in the challenges we encountered as we first started using Altru.

Favorite topic to date? Or Best Idea so far?

I really like the  Introduce Yourself posts. It's nice to get to know about the people behind the technical topics.

What convinced you to become so active?

I had lots of questions about how to do things! Once I realized how quickly people responded -- and that others might have the same questions that I do -- there was no stopping. Plus, having been in the software industry for about fifteen years prior to coming to the RISD Museum, I've missed working with a more technical crowd. It's nice to geek out again. :-)
