I’m Sorry Officer, I Was Returning the Puppy

Published
When I was first dating my wife, she called me from out of town and asked me for a favor.

A friend had been dog-sitting my wife’s new puppy, but was ill-prepared to do so.

My wife asked me to save her friend from a cute (but particularly vocal) little puppy, and bring him over to her house where I could watch him for the rest of the weekend.

I happily obliged.

I called my wife to confirm that I had the puppy, and she told me where to get the spare key and gave me the alarm passcode. The passcode given was, unfortunately, incorrect.

After I got through the front door, barking puppy in hand, I tried in vain to shut off the blaring alarm. I called to double- and triple-check the code, and did finally get the correct code—though not until after the police were sent from the alarm monitoring service.

Alarm blaring, sirens blaring, and squirming barking puppy in hand, I realized that this favor was bigger than I had anticipated.

But it all turned out OK—my wife called the alarm monitoring company and the police to explain everything. I may have lost some lifespan from the stress, but I was otherwise none the worse for wear.

Just goes to show, security can sometimes be heart-stopping—but it is necessary.

For software, good security is also important for prevention, cleanup, and database maintenance. Our online workshop-style course, Financial Edge NXT Workshop: Safeguarding Your Database, helps you learn best practices around security, training, business rules, system settings, and even policies and procedures guides. You’ll also learn how to leverage Financial Edge NXT tools to identify and resolve database issues. This workshop gets you out of the database and gives you a big-picture look at your organizational practices—and helps you evaluate those practices to ensure they’re working for you.
