Check Printing
Estimated read time: 1 minute 30 seconds
For more efficiency and security when printing checks, we are removing the Print checks option from the Print-checks page and Pre-payment report.
Moving forward, you will only print checks directly from a PDF file.
Why are we making this update?
This update offers a more secure method of printing checks with fewer errors.
For example, since errors such as paper jams, low ink, or network disruptions can occur during printing, users often need to void payments and start over. In addition, some browsers don’t support check printing which leads to workflow interruptions and frustration.
As a best practice, download your checks as a PDF and then print. Look for this update in an upcoming release!

When will the Data Base View for printing checks go away? I am still using the Data Base View.
I normally print from database view. I recently printed a check from NXT to see how it works and the check number did not print on the check as noted by another commenter. Luckily it was only one check and I ended up voiding it. This really needs to be corrected before the break from database is made. I also noticed the type was smaller on the NXT version. Not sure why.
When we print checks in NXT (from the .pdf file) the system check number does not print on the check. This is against best practices and needs to be remedied.
When printing checks from the database view, the system check number has always printed on the check.
With this change will the ability to process Bank Drafts in the database system go away?
Will this mean that the current button at the bottom left that says “Print Checks” will now just allow you to save the file as a pdf, or how will that work?
That is correct. Only the export options will be available.
Glad to see that the alignment issue is a common theme. I too am concerned that the finctionality form Database is not being replicated in NXT - we can't print our logo on checks - remedy was to just delete it. We have been printing to pdf for a long time. However, in NXT, the alignment is off, and we are unable to adjust it. This must be addressed.
We too have issues with the alignment.
Hi Linda, the ability to print check logos in NXT is on our road map. We will keep you updated as we work on getting this feature in NXT.
I already print my checks to plain paper and then run them through our copier to print onto the actual checks. The one thing I wish NXT had was the ability to change the alignment separately on the check stub and the check portion. Right now you can only align the doc as a whole, so in order to have the check portion come out correctly, the stub portion is miss aligned. It is funny, when I run checks from the database, all parts align perfectly, but NXT it is all miss aligned and I have to “fix” the alignment based on the check portion.
Yes, we have the same issue with the alignment and have been printing the checks in the database version.
When we switched to NXT, we were not able to print directly to our printer. So, we printed as the system is now. We then exported to a pdf and printed on real checks. We need to see that checks will print correctly. There really isn't a need to fix what is not broken!!!
Will we still be able to change the print date?
Yes, you can still change the print date from the print settings.
How does one adjust printer for alignment in NXT? And if you output to a pdf, how are you able to confirm the checks printed correctly?
Overall concerned about the database functionality NOT being replicated in NXT. Not to mention NXT is significantly slower than database.
Hey Anthony. We didn't change any other settings, so you can still access Format check settings to validate the content and alignment. When it is exported and saved, the printer will print as it is in the PDF.
