SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT

We’re excited to announce the release of the Blackbaud 2021 Social Responsibility Report!
Take a deep dive into this report to learn more about how Blackbaud exists to help good take over by powering a global Ecosystem of Good®. This includes growing and strengthening the entire social good community, empowering our people, stewarding the environment, and expanding our responsible business practices. Read the whole report HERE.

LISTEN UP!

Aligned with the release of our Social Responsibility Report, we’ve published a new sgENGAGE Podcast episode, “The Case for ESG in Nonprofits.” In this episode, Blackbaud’s Rachel Hutchisson was joined by Tim McClimon, president of The Celeste Group, to discuss why social good organizations should view ESG as an operating strategy and as a way of being more transparent and accountable to their employees, donors, beneficiaries, communities, and the planet. Listen to the full episode HERE.

Has your cultural background had any influence on your decision to pursue a career in the tech industry?

In my small town where Asians made up less than 1% of the population, I loved eating lumpia, adobo, sinigang, and pansit at home, but externally, from the media and non-Asian community around me, I was taught that I was supposed to be good at math and science, an excellent student – the model minority overall. A younger me who was surrounded by these stereotypes may have chosen to work in tech because it’s what I was told, and therefore thought, I would be good at. As an adult though, I’m glad to say that those stereotypes don’t dictate my decisions, and I was able to choose this career based on my actual skills and interests, not based on what/who I was supposed to be.

What advice would you give other AANHPIs, looking to pursue a career in the tech field?

Remember that there are tons of different ways to work in tech! In some Asian communities, there’s a push to pick the job that’s stable since many of our parents came from situations/times that were not. Growing up with that concern, it’s valid to want the sustainability that comes with a field like tech. But remember that you don’t have to only work on the technical side if that’s not your interest or skillset!

I am a proud Pinay (Filipina) in tech, and I am also overjoyed that my job duties require little math, and all my sciences are social. There are options in the field that can align to a wide array of skills!
