Wealth Ratings: Kickstart Your Prospect Research

Published

Do you know the true giving capacity of your donors? You may have someone who routinely gives a small — but valued! — gift each month or quarter, but maybe that regular donation is just the tip of the iceberg. With some insight into the wealth capacity of your donors, you can make informed decisions on which relationships to give extra attention and the white-glove treatment for some increased giving.

If you use Raiser's Edge NXT in the US, Target Analytics, a division of Blackbaud, Inc., automatically screens your constitutents and provides their recommended wealth ratings — on a scale from zero to five stars, like a movie review — based on their public assets and other public information. In Raiser's Edge NXT, you can find the constituent's wealth rating under Ratings on their record and in the Wealth rating column of the Portfolio tab in Work Center. You can use this information to help determine where to focus your fundraising energies and which donors to ask for larger gifts. Keep in mind these ratings are recommendations, to kickstart your prospect research. For more accurate information, use these rating with additional analysis and resources.

Wealth analytics. With the optional Wealth Analytics, Target Analytics also returns a suggested donor type and next ask amount for each constituent and displays it under Ratings on the constituent's record or in the Wealth rating column in Work Center. With these details, you can help identify who to ask for larger gifts or steward from annual donors to major gift donors. For details, check out the Blackbaud Analytics Ratings Help.

ResearchPoint. With ResearchPoint, your organization can set a custom formula to determine your constituents' overall wealth capacity. This information — often the result of more considered, crafted research and investigation — can provide more personal insight into a donor's wealth and capacity to give. You can view this data in the ResearchPoint ratings column on the Portfolio tab in Work Center. For more information, check out the ResearchPoint Ratings Help.

Giving history. Someone who donates once is likely to do so again. To help gauge the likelihood that a constituent will give, analyze their giving history, with a focus on the recency, frequency, and monetary totals (RFM) of their gifts. For a deep dive into a constituent's giving history, click Work with gifts under Giving on their record. For details about RFM analysis, check out the Giving Analysis Best Practices Help.
