Who's a Fundraiser? We ALL Are (Yes, You Too)!

Published

Ever wonder why Raiser's Edge NXT uses the term "fundraiser" to describe anyone who takes on assignments for actions, proposals, and constituent relationships? Because we're all fundraisers who play a part in securing long-term relationships with donors. From a single action to thank a donor with a personal phone call, to a long-term assignment to cultivate a passive prospect into an actively engaged major donor, we're all fund-raising.

With Work Center, you have a space dedicated to those who manage relationships and related activity. Right now it's focused on assignments:
  • Assigned to an action or proposal? It's in your Work Center!
  • Assigned to a donor? They (and their related actions, gifts, and proposals) are in your Work Center
You can also assign fundraisers to actions or proposals instead of the donor and still power their Work Center! Have volunteers who only call donors to thank them for their generosity? Great! Assign them to actions and Work Center will do the rest. No need to assign them to the donors directly (but you will need to make them users first. ;-) ).

When you assign fundraisers to actions, proposals, or constituents, you can select a type to specify their role in your overall fund-raising, such as Volunteer, Major gifts officer, Prospect researcher, Board member, or Annual gifts officer. This way you can assign a prospect researcher and a major gifts officer to a constituent — each defined by their type — so they can both manage the donor in their respective portfolios. When the researcher moves on to another prospect, you can end their specific relationship with the constituent. To track everyone's role, you can configure and clean up the list of available types in the database view as necessary.

If you more generally describe your people as "relationship managers," it's okay to have most of your staff as users linked to constituent records and marked as fundraisers in Raiser's Edge NXT. Because aren't we all fundraisers?
