When I took my first Blackbaud University training, I kept having the “I wish I had known that sooner” thought popping into my head. Here’s one of my favorite tips from our Raiser’s Edge NXT: Professional - Accelerator Pack event:
  • You can modify how a query considers soft credits by clicking Tools > Query Options from the top of the query and then selecting the Gift Processing tab
  • This lets you determine whether to credit donations with soft credits to the donor, soft credit the recipient, or both!

    Favorite trick. Use a recurring gift batch for employee payroll deductions that stay mostly the same week to week/month to month, etc. Change the Date and the GL Post Date fields in the green row. You don't have to manually change those dates for all your rows/donors. Instead, when you're in the Date field in the green row, go to Tools, and select Global Change <> (the name of the field will vary based on which field your mouse is currently in). Enter the new date you want, check the Overwrite existing value box, and press Change Now. The entire column is now changed. Update the GL Post Date field the same way and now your recurring gift batch is ready to be committed again, and all in hardly any time. One more thing - you can always see the committed batch history for recurring gift batches by going to Tools, Edit Batch Setup. When the 'Batch is recurring' box is checked, there is a History button right next to it. Click the History button and you'll see all the times you've committed your recurring batch, along with the Batch Number, the Date Committed, and the Amount Committed.
