What's New In Raiser's Edge NXT The Week Of November 2

This week, Raiser's Edge NXT announces enhancements to actions, gift receipting, and donation forms. Also, donation forms and the JustGiving integration are now generally available in Canada!Receive notifications, copy, and automatically create actions

Under Actions on a constituent record, you can create and assign actions to individual fundraiser. To improve the action workflow, you can now automatically create actions, copy action records, and receive notifications when an action is assigned to you.

Automatically Create Actions

To help you more easily track actions, you now receive a prompt to automatically create an action record when you select a constituent’s phone number or email address from their record. If you choose to track the action, an action record is created with the appropriate contact type, the current date, and you as the fundraiser.

Copy Actions

You can now copy an existing action and assign it to the same or a different fundraiser. This can be helpful when you need to record a new action of the same type for the same constituent, for example, or create a similar action for another constituent. Previously, you had to manually copy all details, such as action type.

Under Actions, select Copy action from the action’s menu menu.png.

Note: Copying an action does not share the action with another fundraiser or constituent.

Select an action name to access the action record. To copy an action from an action record, select Copy to.

In addition, when you add an action, you can choose to copy it under Copy to.

When you copy an action through any of these options, you search for the constituent to copy it to, and choose whether you want to include attachments and custom fields.

Receive Action Notifications

When an action is assigned to a fundraiser, the fundraiser now receives a notification including a link to the action in the top-level navigation. You can follow the notification to see details of the action, including who assigned it, or dismiss the notification.

You can also see a list of the past week’s actions assigned to you under Notifications.

Include a link to a PDF receipt on email receipts (for those with gift receipting)

When you email a receipt to a donor, you can now include a link to a PDF version of the receipt. The new merge field Receipt link displays a link called Download receipt that the donor can click to download a zip file with their receipt.

To ensure that donors download the PDF receipt before it expires, you can also include the new Receipt link expiration date merge field on the email receipt. It displays the date seven days from when the email is sent.

To add these merge fields to the body of a receipt email, go to Gift receipting, Email receipt template, select Open email designer. In the content area, select Merge, Gift information, Receipt link and Receipt link exp. date. For more information, see Receipt Templates Merge Fields.

Build and manage donation forms (now generally available in Canada)

To help you easily accept and process gifts from your organization's website, you can now use Raiser's Edge NXT to create and manage donation forms! From Tools, Donation form designer, design and build forms and then use automatically generated code snippets to embed them on your website.

With Donation forms, you can:

  • Quickly create forms with a drag-and-drop designer

  • Accept recurring gifts and automatically process subsequent payments

  • Offer credit and debit card, direct debit, and digital wallet payment options

  • Design thank-you emails with your organization's branding

  • Track performance and view which websites refer donors to the forms

  • Associate an appeal with a donation form

  • Allow donors to designate their gift across multiple funds

Note: When a donor's browser locale is set to Canada, donation forms automatically use the correct format for phone numbers, dates, and addresses. To set your organization's currency to Canadian dollars, update your settings in the database view from Configuration, International. For more information, see Organization currency.

For more information, see Donation Forms.

Track Google Analytics events for donation forms (for those with donation forms)

With Google Analytics, you can determine the effectiveness of your donation forms by analyzing donor behavior. You can also track how donors arrive at the forms, such as a link from an email through the completion of their transactions.

To begin tracking, your organization must have a Google Analytics account. From Tools, Settings, enter your organization's tracking ID under Google Analytics.

Note: If you are using Google 4, the Tracking ID is now the Measurement ID.

For more information, see Google Analytics.

Add JustGiving gift and donor data into Raiser's Edge NXT (now generally available in Canada)

JustGiving fundraisers spread your organization's mission and raise funds on your behalf. Now you can add JustGiving fundraising page owner, donor, and gift data into Raiser's Edge NXT. From Control panel, Settings, select JustGiving integration and set up defaults for new gift records and new constituents from JustGiving. For more information, see JustGiving Integration.

When you copy an action, are you able to see which records an action has been copied to?

I also wonder about how copied actions might interfere with workflows, but don't have a specific use case. So I guess I'll leave that comment as something to keep in mind!

    Thanks!

  • Hi Karen! Thank you for your question and feedback. When you copy an action, you select which record to copy it to. However, you can't go back and see after the fact what records a particular action was copied to. When you copy an action, the action behaves the same way as if you had added an action the traditional way. You don't share the action, you just copy the content. I hope that helps!

  • If you assign an action to yourself will you still get a notification? Also do you need to turn notifications on? I am seeing the other two updates for actions but not notifications

I actually had a colleague add an action on their record and assign it to me and a couple hours later I am still not seeing a notification?

If you assign an action to yourself, you will get the notification. This rolled out around lunch time EST so it may not have been enabled for your site yet. Everyone should be live now.

This rolled out around lunch time EST today. All sites should be active now. If you try again you should see the notification.

  • Good morning! Still not seeing any notifications this morning.

Did you retry adding the fundraiser in the afternoon? Anything added before the rollout completed will not retroactively work. If you try a fresh one today and it is still not prompting we would want to get support involved to see what could be happening.

  • Thanks for getting back to me Anthony…have been on with general NXT support with no solution. He will look into further to try to get me an answer…he didn't seem to familiar with this update. Is there anyone else I should be reaching out to directly?

This is the right approach. It is obviously a new feature so maybe something is going on and this is the first report. They will get it over to my team and we will see for sure what is going on.

  • It doesn't make sense at all to receive notifications when you assign an action to yourself. I know I have a new action, I just did it… Especially when the action is completed- because there isn't any further action needed if it is completed.

Hi Lisa, thanks for the feedback and we have heard this both ways. We have folks that want to remind themselves that they have work to come back to so we wouldn't want to just eliminate that completely. I can see not notifying if the action is complete, that does make sense. We also need to update the handling of notifications a bit since there is no way to dismiss or delete, that should help get rid of some of the noise.

  • Any progress with turning off notifications? Especially for actions I created myself.

This is in our plan to update in the next month. We will not turn off the notifications for actions you create unless they are marked as complete. The completed status is what will dictate if the notification is fired or not.
