Core
OneRoster integrations now support OAuth 2.0
OneRoster integrations now support OAuth 2.0. New OneRoster OAuth 2.0 integrations require Platformer managers to generate a new key and secret to distribute to vendors from the OneRoster settings page (Core > Settings > Integration settings > OneRoster settings).
Existing OAuth 1.0 OneRoster settings have the new field, Use legacy OAuth 1.0 authentication, enabled by default.New OneRoster authorization settings default to OAuth 2.0. To generate an OAuth 1.0 compatible set of credentials, enable Use legacy OAuth 1.0 authentication when first creating a new set.
A new column, Authorization type, is now available on the OneRoster settings list; use the column to differentiate between OAuth 1.0 and OAuth 2.0 authorization credentials.
OAuth 2.0 is the industry-standard protocol for authorization. OAuth 2.0 focuses on client developer simplicity while providing specific authorization flows for web applications, desktop applications, mobile phones, and living room devices.
Blackbaud ID: Migrate by September 27, 2022
Platform managers can migrate users to Blackbaud ID via the links on the Core home dashboard. They can also export user lists for use in mail merges and other communications.
We’ve extended the deadline to migrate users. Ensure your school’s users are on BBID by September 27, 2022.Authenticating with Blackbaud ID:
- ensures an even more secure authentication process,
- enables users to further enhance security by enabling multi-factor authentication through text messages or mobile authenticators,
- enables users to login to multiple Blackbaud solutions and support resources with a single username and password,
- enables users to login with “social authentication” via Google’s authentication requirements, password resets, and other support needs,
- enables users to help themselves reset forgotten passwords, rather than platform managers needing to provide tech support for forgotten passwords,
- enables schools to enable an optional SSO for any roles they prefer, so that those users sign in with the school’s identity providers and the school can then manage the users in their claimed domains.
Enforce Blackbaud ID Requirement (Opt-In to EAP)
Platform managers can select to join the early adopter program (EAP) which forces all users to log in with Blackbaud ID (BBID) before it’s required for all schools.
From Core, select Security, select Blackbaud ID authentication, select Enforce Blackbaud ID authentication, and finally select Enforce to confirm you want to join the EAP.When you enforce BBID, all users, regardless of their security role, will be required to log in with Blackbaud ID.
During the EAP, you can revert and opt out to stop enforcing BBID. However, later this year, it will still be enforced for all schools, all users, and all security roles, as previously announced.
Financial Aid management
Blackbaud ID for school users
As part of ongoing updates to security protocols, on September 27, 2022, Blackbaud ID (BBID) will replace the existing log in process for school users signing into Blackbaud Financial Aid Management (BBFAM).
This change does not affect parents signing into BBFAM.Leading up to September 27, 2022, school users signing into BBFAM can link their account to BBID before it is required. After logging in with their username and password, school users will see this message and select from the following options:
- Create a Blackbaud ID – Users without a BBID account select this option to create a BBID, link it to their BBFAM user, and sign into BBFAM with their BBID going forward.
- Skip for now – A user can select this option to proceed to BBFAM without linking to BBID. The next time the user signs in, they will be presented again with the same options to link to BBID. On September 27, users will no longer have the option to skip and must link to BBID to access BBFAM.
- Sign in with an existing Blackbaud ID – Users with an existing BBID account select this option to link their BBID to their current BBFAM user and sign in with BBID going forward.
Manage Users
When adding a new school or enterprise user via Manage Users, administrators now enter the user’s Blackbaud ID email and send them an invitation to connect to BBFAM using BBID. When accepting the invitation, the user creates a BBID account or signs in with their existing BBID to access BBFAM.
Additionally, the Manage Users grid now displays each user’s Blackbaud ID, Contact email, and their Invitation Status:- Registered indicates the user signs into BBFAM with their Blackbaud ID.
- Unregistered indicates the user signs in with a legacy username and password or does not log in at all. School users in Unregistered status have the option to link their account to BBID each time they sign in. Beginning on September 27, Unregistered school users will be required to sign in with BBID.
- Awaiting Response indicates the user has been invited to sign in with Blackbaud ID, but they have not yet accepted the invitation and signed in.
