A new assessment experience is coming soon!

Published

We have an exciting update regarding a brand new Assessment experience coming very soon. Come check out all the details as we start to launch this new experience.

A new Assessment experience is coming to your school soon! We’ll be releasing this in waves over the next week. So, if you don’t see it immediately bear with us for just a bit.

As teachers begin to dive into the new tool, I wanted to explain some of the enhancements we’ve made to the experience. Here are just a few of the updated the team has made to Assessments:
  • We’ve added a new matching question type
  • There is now a native print feature
  • Added the ability to edit text and correct answers after an assessment has been started by students
  • Removed the click-and-drag functionality when adding questions to an assessment
  • Student’s work will automatically save while taking the assessment
For some quick highlights on the new feature, check out this video:

First, when teachers go to create an assessment, they’ll be prompted with a choice, to either use the new or the old builder. We know that a lot of work has gone into making assessments in the old builder, and we don’t want to invalidate that, so feel free to dip your toes in the new builder while the old experience still remains in the software.

From here, teachers will be able to configure the general settings of their assessment. One thing to note is that the Result screen settings have been moved to this page. With this move, we think these settings will be a little easier to find and manage.

Once in the builder, teachers will be able to construct their assessments. One neat thing to call out is the new ability to randomize multiple choice answers. This can be configured on a question-by-question basis. So, if a teacher only wants some multiple-choice questions to have randomized answers and some to not, it's entirely possible! Also from this screen, teachers can preview the assessment as though they were students.

After students have submitted their assessment attempts, teachers will be able to utilize a new evaluation screen that more closely mimics the existing assignment evaluation screen. From here, teachers can allow students to Retake an assessment, Resume an assessment, Extend the due date of an assessment and provide feedback to students. Teachers will also be able to quickly isolate Essay questions that need grading via Show only questions awaiting evaluation, which should make it easy to find and grade those questions.

Finally, students also have a new Results screen that they’ll land on once results have been made available to them. To help students find valuable teacher feedback, we’ve removed the need for students to click into the teacher feedback. Instead, we’ll be displaying it by default. Students will also have a series of filters so they can quickly locate questions that were marked as Incorrect or have a teacher comment.

We know that there are still some enhancements needed for this experience, like being able to report on how your students performed on the assessment holistically. This is something that we’re working to bring to you all in the future. So, be sure to keep a lookout in our What’s New posts for more information on future Assessment enhancements.

For more specific information on all of the settings and configurations found within the new builder, check out our Help documentation.

Have feedback on the new experience? Great! Log it in our Ideas Portal and let your voice be heard! We’ll be monitoring suggestions to consider for future enhancements to this experience.

Has any though been given to allowing teachers to import/export assessment content through Aiken format text files or 3rd-party test banks (ExamView, Moodle, etc.)?

Where do I find the “detailed question breakdown” that is found in the previous assessments?

Hi Tim -

We don't have a detailed question breakdown available in the new experience just yet. We're working on building that now, however. Once we're ready to share more information regarding timelines, we'll communicate through our product briefings and other communication avenues. We know that seeing how the assessment performed and getting analytics around how the students holistically performed is really important.

This is an exciting enhancement! If a teacher imports an assessment created in the old version will they have the opportunity to edit in the new version? Thank you.

Hi Lisa -

As of right now, no, both systems are completely independent of one another. However, we are working on creating a way to convert old Assessments into new Assessments. We don't have a timeline we can relay at the moment, but as we get more of the experience constructed we'll be sure to communicate that to you all!
