The Golden Age of TV Commercials

Published
I’m a Boomer. You know, of the Baby Boomer generation. And Boomers remember the “golden age” of television commercials … back when the way you changed the TV channel was, you got UP and walked across the room to turn the dial on the black and white television. I just blew some of your minds, I know.

What I remember most about commercials in the late 60s and early 70s is the voice of some announcer claiming that the product on the TV screen would make life easier. I can hear in my head, “Just push the button and you’re done.” Maybe some of you remember the saying, “Set it and forget it.”

When I was pitching the idea of a 1-day-all-Fundamentals Accelerator Pack event, the voice of Ron Popeil, the Ronco marketer, was in my head. So if you’ve never heard the voice before, search the internet for Ron Popeil, listen to one of his marketing spots, and imagine the following in his voice:

Blackbaud University is excited to introduce the newest trend in Accelerator Packs. (Not sure what an Accelerator Pack is? Here’s a description.) Are you tired of searching Blackbaud Training Central to sign up for every Fundamentals course? Frustrated with wait lists? Do you just want to spend a single day learning all the product basics so you can get certified and take the exciting courses? If this describes you, then the Financial Edge NXT Fundamentals - Accelerator Pack event is the answer to your training needs.

One click registers you for a day-long (yes, only one day!) training that includes all four Fundamentals courses AND time at the end to take the Financial Edge NXT Fundamentals certification exam! Simplicity and satisfaction in a single mouse click!

But wait, there’s more!

Your registration in the Fundamentals - Accelerator Pack means you’ll spend the day with one instructor and one group of peers, allowing you to gain the advantage of a BlackbaudU instructor’s rock-star experience and giving you the opportunity to network with others at your same level.

As if that weren’t value enough, you’ll be provided the link to the Fundamentals certification exam at the end of the day. Your instructor will lead you out to the exam and you can finish your experience by celebrating your successful Fundamentals certification!
Did you hear all that in Popeil’s voice? Good. Even better would be if you got so excited you clicked on this link to register for Blackbaud University’s Financial Edge NXT: Fundamentals - Accelerator Pack.

And as the TV announcer sometimes would say, “Now back to our show…”

For those of you who didn’t live through the Golden Age of 1960s and 1970s television, you’ve now been exposed to a little bit of it! For my fellow Boomers, and early Gen-Xers, this is a walk down memory lane.

In the format of TODAY’S advertisements, here’s the typical end-of-advertisement mumbo-jumbo:

I've been using Financial Edge 7 for several years but converted to NXT last July.  Is there a class for learning how to use NXT?  I've learned on my own how to run reports but the tutorial for Treasury Deposits skips over the part I'm having trouble with - distributions.  In FE7 the debit account is automatically assigned by the bank account selected and I only have to enter the credits.  In FE NXT I'm constantly getting a message the I'm out of balance.
A one day course for those of us who are transitioning from FE7 to FE NXT would really be nice.  Thanks, Lynn Ortega
Thanks for that feedback, Lynn! I would highly recommend taking the Fundamentals courses (either in this format or in the individual course format) just to get a feel for where things are located. Your specific question above won't be answered, but your instructor can probably help you sniff out where the problem is occurring. It's one of the huge benefits of attending instructor-led training with Blackbaud U.

Also, if you worked with an implementations analyst and still have access to that person, he or she can potentially give you the specifics you need as that sounds like something to do with your overall setup - could be an interfund entry setting within database view somewhere.

If you're not a Learn Everything subscriber and you want to take the individual fundamentals courses, they're in the first section of the datasheet, located here: https://www.blackbaud.com/files/resources/downloads/Datasheet_Training_Learn_FENXT.pdf
