Signs of Spring! What's your favorite?

I got to talking with some fellow employees about our bird-watching and I'm excited to be seeing new arrivals already! I love seeing some migrate through and the spring arrivals that will stay through summer and fall. But of course there are many signs of spring! What are your favorites?

  • Nature is my favorite entertainment. Sunshowers in spring feels as amazing to me at 48 as it did when I was 5!

  • Crystal, I used to live in Wilmington, NC and loved the Azalea Festival! Our azaleas don't show up for quite a while up here in Ohio. It's still cold until April/May. :(
  • I live in the PNW where we have very few sunshiney days. My favorite part of spring is that first day where it's a balmy 60+ and sunny and everyone breaks out their sundresses for a day (pretending we aren't cold, we just need some sun on our skin!), then has to reluctantly break out their snow boots again by the weekend. ; ) we are such an optimisitc people.
  • The birds chirping! Reminds me of time spent at my grandparents house! It just brings an ease to my heart! Great topic!❤???

When the temperatures get into the mid to high 60's and the flowers start blooming!
  • 60+ degrees, smell of fresh air, lightweight jackets, ?, ?,
  • When the lavender tree alongside our driveway blooms!  It smells heavenly!
  • Here in Portland, OR the cherry blossoms are just about ready to bloom along the waterfront and all over the city. It's such a pretty time of year, with the promise of new life. I love hearing the birds chattering and singing. It's such a cheerful sound!

  • Rachel Cavalier‍ OMG!!!  That photo of the basil sprigs made my day!!!

    Thank you!!

and thank you to David Hazeltine‍ for donating the swag to the Community Treasure Chest!!
  • Seeing new sprouts makes me so happy! Also when all the daffodils, tulips and crocus start to bloom it fills me with so much joy at having gotten through Winter!

I am loving all these! So great to see! We're finally starting to get green grass up here in Wisconsin and I think maybe I'm starting to see little buds on the trees! It's amazing what a difference a few weeks makes this time of year. Can't wait to start planting my garden!
  • Birds! All the birds returning and waking up to hearing all their songs. I know it's officially spring when my red-winged blackbirds move into the marsh down the street. Their trill-chit is one of my favorites. I feel bad for them right now as it's snowing as we speak. :(

And I know it's officially summer come June when my house wrens start making their nests in my birdhouses. They have such a cheery song it always makes me happy.

Daffodils in the neighbors yard, tulips growing in my yard and robins.

Daffodils and crocuses popping up out of the snow always gave me hope that winter would eventually end.

Crocuses are always the first to peekout in my yard, and only linger for about a week. I love seeing them and knowing more is on the way, growing and getting ready underground. :) I just moved to a new house and I'll miss my bulbs- I plan to plant a lot this fall.

I realised today that because of quarantine we might miss seeing the mass blooming of daffodils and crocus here in the UK.. So I have been googling pictures instead.

Here's some daffodils currently blooming in the grounds of a castle near us (and featured in the most recent Transformers Movie!)

We had some crocuses last month and some daffodils, but I don't think they've really had enough rain maybe? This is the last of the daffodils we have:

  • Hi Tara,

I agree with you that hearing the birds happily singing is such a nice greeting when I go outside. Another favorite is seeing the new colors emerge of spring blossoms and the bright green of the new leaves growing on the trees. So pretty!!

  • Wait a sec! I was informed I had been picked to get a basil plant from some kind of Blackbaud drawing.  GIMME MY BASIL plant already :)  Yours looks GREAT!  So cute and I LOVE putting basil on pizza...
  • ...for me spring means seeing an unusual number of robins - we have robins year round here but around Spring they seem busier than ever...
