Student over write feature

Hello Everyone!

I am wondering if anyone has experienced this same issue and may have found a solution.

I have a student who submitted their impact statement to me directly since we were still in implementation when I needed the answers. I wanted to upload them in to the portal and found that I can "become user" which would have been totally fine, but the student had never logged into BBSM. In order for me to become the user, I had to make up a password for her account and essentially log in as her. I feel like there has to be a better way to go about this than basically making a fake account for the student. Has anyone dealt with this issue?

Please note, I chatted with support and this was the best solution they were able to offer.

It just seems really odd to me...

  • Hello,

It might help to have users created on imports. That way, you'd have their information linked up by their university ID information. Ours is linked up, so students would have the same NetID and password as their other university accounts. I have only needed to create a password for an user once with the Become User function and it was for a reference who may not ever use the system again. I can't imagine having to do that for every student who has trouble signing in, though. If you are able, I'd highly suggest the import user option. I think it will save you a lot of time if you have requests like that often.
  • Thank you, that seems like it could solve my issue!
  • Note that the Create User Upon Import (CUUI) feature comes with an additional fee. It's a wonderful feature, and would solve your issue as it drafts an application for every student using their student record info with your daily import file, but it does cost substantially more. You can also look into implementing Single Sign-On, and link it with your internal student records system. Then it's the same e-mail address and password they use to access their student accounts, e-mail, virtual classes, etc. Your IT folks would have to work on that with the Blackbaud team, it did not have any additional expense I believe.
