Calling all Crocheters or Knitters!

I have come across a few fellow yarn enthusiasts on here lately so I thought we could have a Just For Fun post to share your WIPs! What do you have on your needles or hooks?

I'm working on a Temperature Blanket (crochet - moss stitch) where each row represents the high temperature (within a 5 degree band) of each day for a year. This is a house warming gift for a good friend of mine and I only have 2 more months to go!

How about you? What are you working on?

  • That is beautiful!!! I have always wanted to learn how to crochet or knit but never have. This is inspiring.
  • @Faith Murray!! That is amazing! I am a very very basic seamstress, so I can only imagine the work that dress took. Well done - it's beautiful!

@Jenny Stephens Thanks! A colleague taught me how to crochet, but YouTube has been my best friend to learn new stitches as well as how to knit. My recommendation is to find a simple pattern from YouTube, see what supplies they recommend, and give it a shot! In my experience, crochet is easier (and faster) than knitting.

  • Love this, I have this on my list to do. Maybe I will start on in January.

  • @Allison King As a Ravenclaw, I love that your daughter wants a Gryffindor shawl! The Blackbaud green baby hat is fantastic - a gender neutral introduction to nonprofit software solutions!

@Allison King I love the Blackbaud hats and the shawl! So fun! This inspires me to post a new thread: "What Hogwarts House are you" from Quizoto. Stay tuned!

Jennifer! I love this, and what a lovely idea!!! I think I couldn't keep up with it daily, but perhaps weekly…..

  • @Heather MacKenzie I can't do it every day either, that's why I like to do ones from past years (like this one is 2010-2011) so I can put all of the highs in an Excel spreadsheet with conditional formatting for the temperature ranges.

LMAO! Jennifer, leave it to a community of database people to turn knitting into an Excel project! Never would have dreamed. Love it! ?

@Jennifer Vincent and thanks for teaching me that “Moss Stitch” exists! I so wanted to take out my hook and start practicing it right then and there, but… you know… still on the clock for work, so….. LOL

  • @Faith Murray that dress is beautiful!

  • I love temperature blankets! Some day I will learn to knit or crochet and make one ?

  • Aldera Chisholm:

I used to knit and crochet more - but lately I've been cross-stitching. But loving seeing your WIP's here to remind me that I can pick my hooks back up again!

@Aldera Chisholm if you have any cross-stitching WIP's I would love to see what you're working on!

  • @Aldera Chisholm Those are awesome! I have never done a cross-stitch without the pattern directly on the fabric - I can only imagine the effort it takes to create something so meticulous. Wow!

@Aldera Chisholm those are beautiful! That looks like a lot of work, but so amazing!

  • You are very talented and so is the rest of everyone who posted on this topic. Very inspiring!

  • This blanket is stunning! I've never heard of doing something quite like this based on temperature. I would love to learn how to crochet or knit.

Aw, thanks @Faith Murray I find it so therapeutic

  • @Katherine Swank those are great! I love the fancy wavy one, especially. When the pandemic first hit I burned through a good about of stash yarn and buttons making those for the local hospital - but they were very basic ovals. I hope you have a fantastic trip in Europe - you deserve it!

It's funny how no matter where I go, there seems to be a fiber community! Glad to know there is one here! I don't have a pic at hand, but currently knitting a shawl and a vest, crocheting a poncho, and participating in a Tula Pink advent swap (so making 24 of the same thing out of Tula Pink fabric!). Happy crafting!
