Surviving January? What are you doing for fun?

January is tough month for me. Living in northeastern US with cold weather and short days, I always get a little down. Given the spike in Covid rates, I'm further restricted in my ability to be out and about and that is such a bummer!

I'd love to hear from others what you are doing to have fun and maintain a little sanity in these times. Please share!

  • We decided that we're putting in a pool this year to enjoy when the weather warms up. it's been a process watching it get dug, put in, and now being finished up.

  • January has always been a hard month for me as well. This year - it feels colder. I have been really enjoying watching the deer in our backyard, seeing them grow up. We had a new set of windows installed before Christmas that we will be able to open up. I have even opened one window last week. My dog was sniffing the air because the windows were just glass.

  • I am in AZ, so this is my favorite time of year to be outside! Last week, my husband and I went to the Botanical Gardens, which is currently hosting a Chihuly glass exhibit. It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous exhibit. Highly recommend Chihuly if ever in your area!

  • If you want to get outside even though it's gross and you're not that inspired, look around for environmental orgs near you! They do a lot of planting and invasive removal in the dead of winter because roots are dormant for new plants, and the invasives are a little less tough when mostly dead! The other volunteers are always fun and hey you're all miserable together right?

Unfortunately, this month hasn't been so fun for us. Thanks to the virus, my husband and I ended up getting extra time together at home, though, so we binged Yellowstone and finally finished Downton Abbey. We did catch a little snow here in Cincinnati, so I always enjoy looking out our windows at the sights. Now I'm looking forward to planning a trip for the two of us next month to Vegas - my first!

Kylea, what a FANTASTIC suggestion! I really appreciate it. :)

  • @Kylea Johnson Best suggestion I've read this year. :-)

  • I'm watching All Creatures Great and Small on Masterpiece. Very comforting show, which I need after illnesses and school exclusions!
